HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 c131W
74. Mrs. White

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what areas traditionally regarded as Masai lands have been taken for game reserves and what restrictions this imposes on the inhabitants.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

In game reserves in Kenya and Tanganyika hunting and killing animals is prohibited except under licence. Game may however be killed either in self-defence or for the protection of crops or livestock. The authorities have discretion regarding entry and residence, may close any part of a reserve, and may control the movement of livestock.

I am consulting the Governors on the first part of the Question, and will write to the hon. Member when I have received their replies.
