HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 c141W
Mr. McKibbin

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what are his regulations dealing with the issue of temporary driving licences for visitors from countries where different rules of the road obtain.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The present regulations made in 1950 enable any person not resident in Great Britain who is the holder of an International Driving Permit, or otherwise authorised to drive by the competent authority of a country other than Great Britain, to obtain a temporary British driving licence valid for not more than 12 months without passing the driving test.
