HC Deb 17 November 1954 vol 533 c48W
Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the principles which he takes into account when deciding whether or not to grant official recognition to trade unions or professional organisations.

Mr. J. Stuart

As regards the non-industrial Civil Service, my Departments follow the practice adopted throughout the Civil Service generally and ask any association which applies for recognition to demonstrate that it is representative of the category of staff concerned; recognition depends solely on numerical strength.
