HC Deb 15 November 1954 vol 533 c5W
64. Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the absence of a properly equipped plastic surgery unit on industrial Tyneside; and what action is proposed to make additional facilities available.

Mr. Iain Macleod

There is a unit of 40 beds at Shotley Bridge Hospital, serving Tyneside, and the theatres there are shortly to be improved. The regional board intends in due course to replace this unit by one in Newcastle. Meanwhile a 16-bed unit for children is to be provided within the next year at the Fleming Hospital.
