HC Deb 11 November 1954 vol 532 c156W
81. Mr. Shackleton

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will now take action to give effect to the views of the Royal Commission on the Press, with regard to the avoidance of local monopoly over the channels of news and information created by the appointment of newspaper chains as programme contractors.

Mr. Gammans

No. Section 3 of the Television Act, 1954, fully safeguards the accuracy and impartiality of news reports and programmes dealing with controversial matters, and prohibits the broadcasting by the Authority of its own views, or those of any of its contractors, on any political or industrial issue.
