HC Deb 04 November 1954 vol 532 c78W
87. Colonel Sir L. Ropner

asked the Minister of Health the approximate number of blood donors in Great Britain at the present time, and the number of donors still needed to create a substantial supply in blood banks.

Mr. Iain Macleod

About 520,000 in England and Wales at the end of last year, the latest date for which figures are available. An increase of about 25 per cent. on the donor panel is needed to meet the probable growth in consumption of blood and preparations of blood.
