§ 54. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will increase the contribution of Her Majesty's Government to the United Nations Expanded Technical Assistance Programme to £1 million per annum and pledge this over the next three years in order to facilitate long-term planning in this work.
§ 62. Mr. H. Hyndasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can now say if he will respond favourably to the appeal of the United Nations Technical Assistance Fund for a guarantee of £3 million covering the years 1955–57 to help under-developed countries.
§ 67. Mr. D. Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations he has received from the United Nations Organisation and other organisations in this country, about the British contribution to the expanded programme of technical assistance for the underdeveloped countries; and what action Her Majesty's Government now propose to take in regard to their contribution to this appeal.
§ Mr. NuttingRepresentations about the United Kingdom contribution to the Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance have been received from a 5W number of non-Governmental organisations in this country, most of which are members of the United Nations Association's Standing Conference on Economic and Social Work. No representations have been received from the United Nations Technical Assistance authorities.
As to the size of the United Kingdom contribution for 1955 and the suggestion that a pledge should be given to cover three years, I have nothing to add to the reply given on 25th October to the hon. Members for Tradeston (Mr. Rankin) and Fife, West (Mr. Hamilton).
