HC Deb 27 May 1954 vol 528 c37W
27. Mr. P. Roberts

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will immediately reconsider revising the Import Duties (Exemptions) (No. 3) Order, 1954, in view of the fact that foreign currency is being used to purchase foreign steel wire rods, whilst in at least one Sheffield firm the wire rod mill is only running at two-thirds capacity.

Mr. Amory

The Import Duties (Exemptions) (No. 3) Order, 1954, temporarily suspends the duties on a number of iron and steel products, including a special type of wire rod, for a period of six months ending on 18th September. I do not consider that any immediate review of this Order, which has been in operation for two months only, is necessary. It will, of course, be reviewed before September next.
