HC Deb 27 May 1954 vol 528 cc47-8W
Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence by how much per cent. would the retired pay of officers who retired under the 1919 code, be increased today, if their retired pay had not been stabilised in 1935, and if it was still subject to variation upwards and downwards with the cost of living.

Mr. Birch

The 1919 pensions code did not make mandatory any increase of Service retired pay as a result of rises in the cost of living. The question what increase would in fact have been granted in 1954 if stabilisation had not taken place in 1935 is therefore hypothetical.
