asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he is aware of the shortage of telephone cables and equipment available in Portsmouth and of the delays in supplying even priority telephones; and if he will take all possible steps to speed up delivery.

There is a shortage of line plant in Portsmouth but I am pleased to say that plans are well in hand to relieve the situation. In spite of the shortage 1,438 telephones were connected in the 12 months ended 31st March, 1954.
