HC Deb 21 May 1954 vol 527 c148W
Mr. Woodburn

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance the highest amount paid out to any one old-age pensioner and family for pension and supplementary pension combined; the extra cost if all pensioners were raised to that amount; and what the total sum would represent in extra contribution per week per contributor.

Mr. Peake

There is no fixed maximum to National Assistance grants, and I do not think that I can usefully attempt calculations based on some amount that might be paid in wholly exceptional circumstances.
