HC Deb 06 May 1954 vol 527 cc39-40W
Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air to what extent the places available at Cranwell in recent years have not been taken up.

Mr. Ward

Of the 1,230 places which have been available at Cranwell since the College was re-opened in 1946, approximately 150 were not taken up. While we are most anxious to fill every place at the College, we could not justify accepting candidates who are not in our opinion up to the standard required. It is because we have not been able to fill all the places that we have introduced the scholarship scheme.
