HC Deb 11 March 1954 vol 524 c180W
93. Sir H. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why, and under what authority, the police have closed Dean Farrar Street, S.W.1, to through traffic.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis informs me that he was notified by the highway authority that part of the roadway in Dean Farrar Street had become unsafe and that they had decided that it would have to be closed to general traffic until the necessary works could be done. The police placed a "No entry" sign at the junction of Dean Farrar Street and Victoria Street. Their authority for doing so derives from Section 48 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and Regulations 19 and 25 of the Traffic Signs (Size, Colour and Type) Regulations, 1950.
