Darlingasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if his attention has been drawn to the decision of the islanders at Grunasund, Burra Isle, Shetland, who have decided to construct a pier without any Government grant or assistance; and if he will commend such action as worthy of emulation by offering them a 50 per cent, grant.
§ Mr. J. StuartI understand that the people of Grunasund have decided to make a small jetty for their own use and to raise the necessary funds from their own resources. While I commend their initiative, I would not feel justified in offering them a grant, more particularly as I have already agreed to make a grant of 75 per cent, of the cost of the construction of a pier at Hamnavoe to serve Burra Isle as a whole.
