The remainder are employed mainly on repairs and maintenance. (a) Excluding work exempted from authorisation and licensing; men engaged on such work are included under "All other work (including repair and maintenance)." (b) These figures cover the contractors' labour force employed on the erection of factory storage premises and on work for the basic industries including gas, electricity, transport and communications. The amount of work done in this category rose during the year despite the fall in the labour force.
