§ Mr. Fienburghasked the Minister of Health how many spastic and paralysis cases, caused by poliomyelitis, are registered in London and Great Britain; and how many new cases arose in 1952 and 1953.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodI regret that this information is not available. In 1952, 2,740 cases of acute paralytic poliomyelitis were notified and in 1953 the provisional figure was 2,970. Only a small proportion of these would cause any permanent disability.
