Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance the amount standing to the credit of the National Insurance Fund at the most recent convenient date and at the corresponding date of the year previous.

Mr. Turton

The balances of the National Insurance Fund and the National Insurance (Reserve) Fund amounted to £300 million and £1,068 million, respectively, on 31st March, 1953, which is the latest date covered by the published accounts. On 31st March, 1952, the balances were £577 million and £783 million, respectively.
