HC Deb 16 June 1954 vol 528 c145W
61. Mr. Coldrick

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will take steps to exempt hearses from the levy which is now being paid in respect of goods vehicles.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

No. It was made clear during the debates on the Transport Bill that the only practicable way to collect the levy was to relate it to the categories of vehicles established for vehicle taxation. The principle was incorporated in the Transport Act, 1953, and I have no power to alter it.
