HC Deb 15 June 1954 vol 528 c135W
62. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Works what sporting amenities now being enjoyed by the public in the public parks for which his Department is responsible he is proposing to restrict or close down; and why the public are to be deprived of these amenities.

Mr. Bevins

My right hon. Friend is closing down a golf school in Regent's Park on the retirement of the licensee. This conforms with long-standing Government policy designed to reduce the number of enclosures in the Royal Parks. The Parks are intended primarily for the free use of the public and my right hon. Friend is trying to increase, rather than reduce, their enjoyment of the parks.
