HC Deb 04 June 1954 vol 528 cc123-4W
Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Health if he will make a statement on the public warning issued by his Department concerning the use of teething powders; and if he will consult with the Secretary of State for the Home Department about ways and means of ensuring that teething powders containing poisonous substances are only obtainable on a doctor's prescription.

Mr. Iain Macleod

No public warning has been issued, but in a recent series of notes issued by the Department to the editors of women's magazines and to women's page journalists attention was drawn to the possible harm in giving repeated doses of teething powders to infants without medical advice. On the second part of the Question, I have nothing to add to the previous replies given to the hon. Member by my right hon. and learned Friend on this subject.
