HC Deb 03 June 1954 vol 528 c107W
Mr. Callaghan

asked the Minister of Labour if, in view of the failure of the fishing industry to reach a general agreement on the subject of holidays with pay, he will introduce legislation to extend the Trade Boards Acts to that industry.

Sir W. Monckton

No. I have no information which suggests that the Wages Councils Acts, which replaced the Trade Boards Acts, should be applied to the fishing industry. There is a National Joint Industrial Council for the trawler fishing industry, and its agreements provide for paid holidays. Any question affecting terms and conditions of employment within the industry is a matter for the normal negotiating procedure.
