HC Deb 02 June 1954 vol 528 c79W
47. Mr. D. Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies when the Boerasiri-Bonasika drainage and water scheme in British Guiana was started; what is the amount that has been expended to the latest date; and what advantages have so far accrued to the population.

Mr. Lyttelton

The Boerasirie drainage and irrigation scheme was started in October, 1952, and about £403,000 had been spent on it by the end of February this year. It will serve an area of 129,000 acres, some 66,000 acres of which is at present undeveloped. The Boerasirie scheme superseded the earlier and more limited Bonasika project.
