HC Deb 02 June 1954 vol 528 cc80-1W
66. Mr. Beswick

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he has noted the inauguration of the Regional Co-operative Bank of Eastern Nigeria; and if he will bring to the notice of those Colonial Territories who are as yet without a similar institution the value which such a bank can be to the development of their respective economies.

Mr. Lyttelton

I have noted with interest the establishment of this bank but I do not feel that any special action is called for on my part. The value of such institutions is well known to those interested in the development of the Co-operative movement in Colonial Territories, and indeed several others already exist.
