38. Mr. Ian Winterbottom

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if a decision has been reached on the future of the Niger agricultural project at Mokwa.

Mr. Lyttelton

The Nigerian Government and the Colonial Development Corporation have decided to withdraw from this project. They have been in negotiation for some time with the Northern Regional Government who are examining the conditions on which they might assume responsibility for the scheme. I understand that the Northern Regional Government are making a statement to the Press today.
