HC Deb 01 June 1954 vol 528 c73W
Mr. Assheton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make a statement about the fiduciary note issue.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Yes. To provide for the seasonal increase in the demand for notes, the Treasury, in agreement with the Bank of England, has directed that the fiduciary note issue shall be £1,675 million, an increase of £50 million. The Treasury minute giving this direction will be laid before Parliament.
