§ 81. Captain Orrasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will make a statement concerning the incident near Caledon, County Tyrone, on Friday, 16th July, when a lorry carrying mail was held up and ransacked.
§ Mr. GammansThis attempted robbery was made not from a Post Office van but from a lorry carrying mails under contract with the Post Office. It was held up by a gang during the early morning of 16th July. The driver and his mate were overpowered and tied to trees; and the gang then drove off in the lorry, which was later found abandoned. So far as we can see there was no loss from the mail. The matter is in the hands of the police.
