HC Deb 01 July 1954 vol 529 c127W
Sir W. Darling

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number, or approximate number, of Civil Service pensioners resident in Scotland, distinguishing separately those who formerly served in the Postmaster-General's Department.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Material is not available to give more than a very approximate estimate of the number of Civil Service pensioners resident in Scotland. Including widows and other dependants in receipt of pensions, the best estimate I can make is about 3,000 in addition to the pensioners of the Postmaster-General's Department.

The figure for the latter, which represents the number of pensioners who were serving in Scotland immediately before retirement, is about 5,400.
