§ 117. Mr. T. Reidasked the Under-secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations the procedure for consulting other Dominions when Her Majesty's Government decides to grant full responsible government to a Colony under British trusteeship.
§ Mr. J. FosterAs my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said in reply to the hon. Member for Gravesend (Sir R. Acland) on 16th June, 1952, the grant to Colonies dependent upon the United Kingdom of responsible self-government within the Commonwealth is a matter for the United Kingdom Government and the territory concerned; we recognise the interest of the Governments of other Members of the Commonwealth and it is our practice to keep them informed. If any question were to arise of the admission of a Colony to full and independent membership of the Commonwealth, all existing Members would be consulted.
