Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to give details of the average number of vehicles that passed through the Mersey tunnel daily during the first year of its opening; and the latest comparable figures.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The daily average, including pedal cycles, was about 8,400 vehicles in the first complete year ending 17th July, 1935, and about 22,000 vehicles in the year ending 31st March, 1953.
