§ 76. Mr. T. Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement about Mau Mau atrocities in Tanganyika.
§ Mr. HopkinsonYes. There have recently been increasing signs of Mau Mau infection from across the Kenya border among the 8,000 Kikuyu in the Northern Province of Tanganyika. A Kikuyu, his wife and two children have been slashed to death and another Kikuyu and a 10-year old boy have been hamstrung and very seriously injured. Several Kikuyu who were assisting the authorities have disappeared.
It is hoped that the prompt measures taken by the Tgka authorities will avert any further outbreaks of violence.
