HC Deb 25 February 1954 vol 524 c55W
Mr. Grimond

asked the President of the Board of Trade the principal differences in the lists of goods the export of which is forbidden to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and China respectively.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The list of goods the export of which to China is forbidden was published in the Board of Trade Journal of 23rd June, 1951, a copy of which I am sending to the hon. Member; it covers about 480 items or categories of industrial equipment, in addition to arms, ammunition and atomic energy materials. The list of wholly banned exports to the U.S.S.R. is confined to about 250 items (in addition to arms, ammunition and atomic energy materials) of primary importance to Soviet war production; in addition, the export of some 100 items to the U.S.S.R. is subject to quantitative restriction.
