Mr. Gresham Cookeasked the Minister of Education how many new schools were completed in 1963; what was the estimated cost thereof; and what is the approximate value of school-building schemes for 1964.
§ Sir E. BoyleFour hundred and eighty new schools were completed in England and Wales during 1963; the building cost of these, together with extensions and alterations and the remodelling of existing schools, was about £76 million. The value of completions during 1964 is expected to be a little higher.
