HC Deb 20 February 1954 vol 689 cc233-4W
39. Mr. Bence

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development if he will introduce legislation to amend the laws of copyright so as to remove the perpetual copyright from the institutions which enjoy it under Section 46(1) of the Copyright Act, 1956.

Mr. D. Price

This right of certain universities and colleges goes back many centuries. The Copyright Act of 1911 withdrew it but maintained the copyrights existing at that date. This provision was repeated in the Act of 1956. I have not been aware of any demand for its withdrawal.
