§ Mr. Peytonasked the Minister of Food to make a statement on the Interim Report of the Committee on Slaughtering.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeThe Government have accepted the recommendations of the Committee except that relating to the compulsory leasing of slaughterhouses by local authorities. But the Government will seek to ensure that slaughterhouses now in Ministry occupation will be made available as public slaughterhouses for such local authorities as are willing to operate them. I am arranging for an early meeting with representatives of local authorities who I am sure will fully co operate in taking whatever measures are necessary by licensing private slaughterhouses or by providing public facilities to ensure that there is no interruption to meat supplies on decontrol next July.
