§ Mr. L. M. Leverasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether the medical examinations of 4,500 limbless ex-Service men of the 1914–18 war, commenced in June, 1953, have yet been concluded; when the findings of the Independent Committee of medical experts who have been inquiring, since July, 1950, into the long-term effects of amputations on the lives of those men may be expected; and when a decision is likely to be given on the claims of the ageing limbless pensioners for a special amputations' allowance to compensate for their now increased disablement which they claim is not reflected in their pensions assessments laid down in 1919.
§ Mr. PeakeThe medical examinations have been completed. The analysis and collation of the clinical data is proceeding with all possible speed and when completed will be sent to the committee. With regard to the other matters raised, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member for Norfolk, Central on 1st February.
