HC Deb 11 February 1954 vol 523 c145W
56. Sir L. Ropner

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has been able to formulate a scheme to augment the supply of top spit soil for use in glasshouse cultivation; and whether he will make a statement.

Sir T. Dugdale

I am not aware that growers are experiencing difficulty in obtaining top soil for glasshouse cultivation, or that there is a need to augment the supply. In advising local planning authorities on applications for planning permission for the removal of top soil from agricultural land, my Department has full regard to the needs of the horticultural industry.
