asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (1) How many Germans are now serving sentences as war criminals at Werl, and, as far as information is available, at Landsberg, and Wittlich (with Neustadt) respectively.
  2. (2) How many Germans serving sentences as war criminals have been released on parole or otherwise as the result of recommendations by Joint Review Boards in the British Zone in West Germany, and, so far as information is available, in the American and French Zones, and in how many instances the recommendations for clemency by the Joint Review Boards in the several zones have been rejected or modified.

There are at present 70 German war criminals in Werl. I am informed that the corresponding figure for Landsberg is 291 (of whom 67 are al parole); and for WittI.ch (with Neustadt) 53. The proceedings of the Anglo-German Mixed Consultative. Board are secret, and I regret that I cannot give the information asked for in the second part of the Question.
