HC Deb 10 February 1954 vol 523 cc138-9W
112 and 113. Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General (1) if Her Majesty's Government have yet taken any decision on the recommendations of the Television Advisory Committee; and if he will make a statement thereon;

(2) if Her Majesty's Government has now acceded to the request of the British Broadcasting Corporation for approval for the plan to provide complete national coverage for three sound programmes by means of very high frequency.

Mr. Gammans

My noble Friend has decided to accept the recommendation of the Television Advisory Committee that frequency modulation should be adopted for very high frequency sound broadcasting. B.B.C. proposals for making a start on an initial group of stations are now under discussion with the Corporation, and further developments will be considered in due course.
