HC Deb 10 February 1954 vol 523 c121W
Mr. Collick

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation why he has made the decision to discontinue the use of the troopship "Empire Pride,"having regard to the fact that this vessel is only 13 years old, and has given and is able to give better service than some of the older troopships; and if he will reconsider his decision.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The "Empire Pride"has been taken out of the trooping service because the accommodation fell far short of present-day trooping standards. The ship was originally designed as a cargo ship and, owing to her construction, it would be difficult and very costly to modernise her with satisfactory results. I regret, therefore, that I am unable to reconsider my decision to release her from this service.
