HC Deb 10 February 1954 vol 523 c140W
120. Mr. Hurd

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the completion of the Anglo-Argentine Trade Pact, due to end on 30th June next; and to what extent it is proposed that after this date all trade with Argentina will revert to normal competitive channels.

Mr. Amory

The exchange of Notes of 8th February, to which I think my hon. Friend is referring, provides for trade in certain goods between this country and Argentina until 30th June. The effect of the exchange of Notes is to continue substantially during this period the arrangements which obtained last year under the Protocol of December, 1952.

As regards the second part of the Question, all imports from Argentina, except meat, are already in private hands. The trade in Argentine meat will be restored to private hands when deliveries under the present contract have been completed.
