HC Deb 09 February 1954 vol 523 cc100-1W
63. Mr. Parkin

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will review the regulations for registering designs in order to assist manufacturers to protect themselves against imported imitations of their products.

Mr. H. Strauss

The Registered Designs Act, 1949, which was passed after a full inquiry by a Departmental Committee gives the proprietor of a registered design the right to stop others from importing into the United Kingdom, for sale or for purposes of trade or business, articles to which the design or an imitation of it has been applied. My right hon. Friend has no evidence that a review of the Act and the Rules made under it is necessary.
