HC Deb 09 February 1954 vol 523 cc103-4W
78. Mr. Awbery

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why two cases of patent leather for which an import licence had been obtained, consigned to, and needed by, Messrs. Davies, of Bristol, particulars of which have been sent to him, were held up by his officers for a month after arrival at Liverpool; and what he is doing to prevent a repetition of delays of this kind.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The first part of the Question appears to be based on a misunderstanding about which I am writing to the hon. Member, in reply to the letter he was courteous enough to send before putting down this Question.

As regards the second part, Customs Officers are alive to the need to avoid unnecessary delays in the clearance of imported goods.
