HC Deb 09 February 1954 vol 523 cc98-9W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will give the acreage and percentage of land held by the War Office in Wales, Scotland and England at the present time; and what are the figures of land held under Defence Regulations in each country.

Mr. Head

The land held by my Department is about 388,000 acres in England, 40,500 acres in Scotland and 47,000 acres in Wales. These holdings represent 1.2 per cent, in England, 0.21 per cent, in Scotland and 0.92 per cent. in Wales of the acreage of the country. Of this land, 74,000 acres in England, 2,000 acres in Scotland and 1,700 acres in Wales are held under Defence Regulation 51.
