asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what figures are available showing, during the last three years, the number of delinquents, both adult and juvenile, who were considered to be educationally subnormal, or mentally deficient.

The following table shows for 1950, 1951 and 1952, the numbers of persons dealt with by courts in England and Wales under Section 8 of the Mental Deficiency Act, 1913, and the number of persons certified mentally defective while detained in prisons, Borstal institutions, approved schools and remand homes. Figures for 1953 are not yet available.
