HC Deb 04 February 1954 vol 523 cc56-7W
64. Captain Orr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has had from the Government of Northern Ireland on the subject of Purchase Tax on linen and its effect upon unemployment in Northern Ireland; and whether, in view of the fact that the linen industry's grievance on the subject has now been under consideration by him for two years, he will finally clarify his policy in this matter, in order that the industry may know definitely whether their grievance is to be removed or not.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

My right hon. Friend is considering a letter which he recently received from the Minister of Commerce on this matter; but I cannot make any further statement on this subject at present.
