HC Deb 03 February 1954 vol 523 c52W
Mr. Pearson

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the encouragement to greater technical knowledge in industry afforded by the establishment of comprehensive technical libraries in individual factories; if he will draw the attention of industrialists to their value in his publication "Target"; and if he will ask the British Productivity Council to examine methods by which the extension of such libraries can be further encouraged.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

I am well aware of the importance of technical libraries to industry, whether as part of the national or local library services or established in the factories themselves. I will consider whether "Target" can give suitable publicity to the value and use of these libraries. I understand that the British Productivity Council fully recognise the need for encouraging technical reading in industry and are doing what they can to help, both centrally and through local productivity committees.
