HC Deb 03 February 1954 vol 523 cc51-2W
Mr. Callaghan

asked the Minister of Agriculture what representations he has received from local authorities that the Allotments Act, 1922, needs amendment to provide more equitable arrangements for pig-keeping; and if he is prepared to introduce fresh legislation.

Sir T. Dugdale

The Town Clerk of Cardiff has sent me a copy of his letter to the hon. Member in which he suggests that it is impracticable to allow pig-keeping on allotment gardens. The occupier should be able to keep two pigs on a fair-sized allotment garden and at the same time cultivate it mainly for the production of fruit and vegetable crops for family consumption. I do not, therefore, see any need for fresh legislation.
