§ 75. Mr. Crouchasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why, when he made his recent reductions in Purchase Tax, he did not include electrically operated washing machines, particularly in view of their time and labour-saving advantages to the housewife.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThis would involve singling out electrically operated washing machines from the wide range of electrical domestic appliances which are taxed at the same rate. I am aware of no sufficient reason for doing so.
