StuartOn the basis of the estimated population in mid-1953, the 299W amounts spent per head of the population on further education in the counties and cities of Scotland in 1953–54 were £.28 and £.51 respectively. Precise figures for expenditure on technical education are not available, but it is estimated that in 1953–54 it amounted to about 56 per cent. of the expenditure on further education incurred by county education authorities and to about 68 per cent. of that incurred by city education authorities. This expenditure does not include the provision for advanced technical education made in central institutions, the total expenditure on which for 1952–53 (the latest year available) was about £1.3 million, excluding capital expenditure.
