HC Deb 20 December 1954 vol 535 c217W
79. Miss Ward

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what increase in output per man year in the coalmines is to be expected by increased capital expenditure in the year ended April, 1954.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

It is impossible to isolate the effects of capital investment from the results of other factors that influence productivity; but while large investment is always required in an extractive industry such as coalmining to maintain output, particular reconstruction schemes certainly result in increased productivity.
